Ying grew up in Beijing, China with a very strong interest in art early in her life. She decided to study landscape architecture as a way of incorporating her passion for art while pursuing a practical career. She received her masters in Landscape Architecture from Beijing University of Forestry and soon after immigrated to the United States.
In America, she started and ran a successful business that she sold in 2003 to pursue a new career in art. During the last 15 years, she has studied at TMCC, Sierra Nevada College, and many workshops to learn many aspects of sculpting, firing and glazing techniques. Over the last few years, she has added bronze work and last year she took a position with Turenscape Academy as Head Professor of Art design and Art consultant. Her work has been displayed in 18 states and 5 countries.
Although Ying lives in Reno, she spends several months every year traveling around the world. Her travels are a constant source of inspiration for her work. She is prolific and makes a large variety of pieces ranging from bowls shaped like chickens or owls, to life-sized bust. Her art is sometimes whimsical, sometimes serious, but always makes people smile.
