I have been a working artist in Reno since moving here in 1998. I began painting murals, but getting into mosaics is what ignited a passion enough to quit my day job in 2007 and become a full-time artist. For the first 8 years, I worked out of two home studios, both of which have been featured on the Reno Open Studios tour. We moved to our first brick and mortar studio in MidTown in January of 2015, but quickly outgrew it and are happy to be in our current location in Sparks as of May 2017. This space hosts workshops of many different mediums, as well as the art of many other local artisans with our community.
I began teaching workshops at a local mosaic supply company Tessera Glass, then in my home studio. I now teach at the Nevada Museum of Art as well as Copper Cat Studio and over the years have introduced hundreds of students and clients to mosaics. When I purchased Tessera Glass early in 2015, I knew the next step was to have a retail store for mosaic supply along with a larger workshop area to accommodate larger classes and more varied workshops. Not only do we have mosaic workshops, but guest artists offering classes in fused glass, resin art, stained glass, henna, alcohol and more. We also have a yoga studio in house, so we are able to host full and half day retreats, combining yoga, meditation, Reiki and Tai Chi with creativity- nurturing body and soul. Visit Copper Cat Studio to see a variety of projects in the works including student work, small plaques great for gifts and larger architectural commissions.
